No Fear Fractions!

Summary

In this short 60 minute ActivInspire lesson students will use “virtual” integer chips to gain a better understanding of fractions.  As the students move through the lesson they manipulate the integer chips to create a virtual visual representation of fractions.  In addition student will review fraction rules and complete some simple fraction equations.

( The ActiveInspire flip chart is best given to all students as well as projected from the teacher computer.)

This lesson would score in the approaching range for Critical Thinking and Problem Solving.  While student are not working on a specific authentic task, the lesson requires them to use manipulative to gain a better understanding of fractions.  In addition, students are asked to take their learning and apply it to a review at the end of the lesson.
