Summary

Students will research and create a visual presentation for a US President since 1900. They will choose Presidents in class (no more than 2 people will have the same president). Possible mediums for the visual project include: a poster, PowerPoint, Facebook page, Publisher product (newspaper/newsletter), Glogster (digital poster), Infomercial or a children’s book—virtual or hardback. Other mediums are allowed with prior approval. After completion of the individual president research, students will research their classmate’s projects and reflect on other presidents’ possible performance in the 21st Century.

TIPC Ratings

APPROACHING – When students conduct their research, they will use a minimum of 5 sources. At least one source must be in print form and one database source must be used. Wikipedia may be used as long as a second source is researched to validate. Previous guidance was given on determining accuracy of web information. Also, at least 5 pictures of the President must be included. A bibliography/works cited page of all sources used (for information and pictures) will be included with the project.

APPROACHING – Although the students will research individually, they will be expected to complete 2 discussion board activities:
1) “View” at least 5 of your classmates’ projects in discussion board format and provide feedback on them (what you liked/disliked; learned; and compare that president with your own) posting in discussion boards.
2) For homework (outside of class), answer the discussion thread question: Of the 5 president projects you reviewed and your own president, who would be the best president to succeed in our world today—the 21st Century. Make sure your comment reflects issues we have discussed in class or during current events. You need to post a thoughtful comment of your own and also post a thread to someone else’s thread.

APPROACHING – Students will respond to higher order questions such as comparing another student’s president with their own, and who would be the best president to succeed in our world today—the 21st Century. Their comments must reflect issues they have studied in class or current events.

APPROACHING – For creativity, students have the choice to use various mediums for the visual project including: a poster, PowerPoint, Facebook page, Publisher product (newspaper/newsletter), Glogster (digital poster), Infomercial, a children’s book, or another mediums with prior approval.
