Exploring Habitats

Submitted by: Karen Potter
School: Short Pump Elementary

Summary

To enhance the study of habitats, students will work in groups using non-fiction leveled readers to learn about the habitat of their choosing. Each student will fill in a research sheet provided by the teacher and transfer those findings to a group poster that will be presented as an oral presentation to the class. As a culminating activity, students will use a digital camera to photograph the posters. Photographs will be put on Voicethreads.com along with student summaries for students to share with a selected audience; for example: parents and other second grade classes. The selected audience will respond to the questions being asked at the end of each habitat poster thread. The VoiceThread can be used again as an end of the year review.
