Summary

This lesson will require students to make and communicate observations about eagles using a web cam. Students will work independently and in collaborative groups. It is a lesson that is designed to be literacy based (student research, library books, oral communication and written communication) multi-media based (web cam), and inquiry based (student science notebooks and “real life” exploration). The two assessments that will be given at the end of the project are designed to be balanced assessments. These assessments are a combination of the following: written assessments, graphic assessments (drawings, design of eagle habitat), class discussions, interviews, teacher observations, oral presentations, performance assessments (project based learning) and self-assessments.

This lesson is approaching in research and information fluency. Students have choices of internet sites, books, and magazines to choose the best information. Students are given the opportunity to construct and answer questions on their own.

This lesson is developing in communication and collaboration. Students work in groups to accomplish a class assignment. digital and non digital tools are used to communicate.

This lesson is approaching in critical thinking and problem solving. Through research, students are able to generate purposeful questions and justify their own decision making. Students solved open-ended authentic tasks using digital tools.

This lesson is ideal/target for creativity and innovation. Students synthesized existing knowledge and knowledge they obtained through research to create an original piece of work to demonstrate this knowledge. Students were able to reflect on their project as well as others and evaluate the projects.
