Principals and HPE Teachers,
Family Life for your students will be taught by your Health and PE teachers during their Health units.
Health and Physical Education department chairpersons were told at Department Chair Meetings that updated family life materials are located in Google and Schoology. These materials should serve as guidelines for curricular materials in all family life content used in Henrico County Schools.
Only screened videos and supplemental teaching materials will be incorporated into the health curriculum. Sensitive topics within family life instruction are taught in an opt-out format. We encourage all students to attend family life instruction as part of the school health curriculum.
Dating violence and the characteristics of abusive relationships will be taught in 9th and 10th grades based on Senate Bill 906. Tenth grade will be using the curriculum put out by the Center of Disease Control and Prevention called Choose Respect to address Dating Abuse and Violence.
A packet and description of the Check it Out Program are attached which includes a letter to parents, opt-out forms, Check it Out description and objectives for Family Life.
Please ensure that you use the attached packet of materials and not previous years as it has been updated with new materials. Resources are available in Google/Schoology.
