Instructional Assistant Training regarding Autism Spectrum Disorders and House Bill 325 is coming! All new hires should complete the training within 60 days of employment, as stipulated by the legislation.
Date: Thursday, September 22, 2016
Time: 8:30 – 4:00
Location: Eastern Henrico Recreation Center (1440 N Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23223)
Registration will be limited to 35 participants (Additional trainings will be held this year in September and October). Exceptional Education Department Chairs should register staff at the following link, no later than Friday, September 16, 2016: https://docs.google.com/a/henrico.k12.va.us/forms/d/1Qfp1EcZBnzKtdJgDa8YxELgDetbcQ7L6vfltXJEbUDo/viewform
Temporary Instructional Assistants who attend the training from 8:30 – 4:00 will be able to log those hours on their time sheets back at school. Each school would then need to arrange their schedules for the remainder of the week to stay within our 29-hour limit.
All attendees will receive 1 hour for lunch on their own. Instructional Assistants must attend the training for the duration of the day. – Instructional Assistants will not be permitted to leave early, as there are assessments they must complete in order to receive their certificate of completion. Please make sure Instructional Assistants are aware of this requirement.
**Note: These trainings are targeted for new hires, as many Instructional Assistants have previously completed this training. If you are unsure about the individuals in your building and their completion of this training, please e-mail Kristin Herman at keherman@henrico.k12.va.us
***An on-line training is available through the VCU Autism Center for Excellence. As the training is available on-site through HCPS, staff will not be compensated for their time if they choose to complete the course on-line. Copies of completed certificates must be sent to Kim Harris in Human Resources at Central Office. Information can be found at https://vcuautismcenter.org/te/courses/paraprofessionals.cfm
Thank you for your continued cooperation as we work to ensure compliance with House Bill 325!
