Family Life for your students will be taught by your Health and PE teachers during their Health units.
Health and Physical Education department chairpersons were told at Department Chair Meetings that updated family life materials are located in SchoolSpace in the Health and PE Community Group. These materials should serve as guidelines for curricular materials in all family life content used in Henrico County Schools.
Only screened videos and supplemental teaching materials will be incorporated into the health curriculum. Sensitive topics within family life instruction are taught in an opt-out format. We encourage all students to attend family life instruction as part of the school health curriculum.
Dating violence and the characteristics of abusive relationships will be taught in 8th grade based on Senate Bill 906 which passed in July, 2011.
A packet is attached which includes a letter to parents, opt-out forms and objectives. Please ensure that you use this packet of materials and not previous years as it has been updated with new materials.
