Virginia Gifted Regulations require students to receive a continuous and sequential program of services. One of the goals of the Department of Exceptional Education’s Gifted Education Plan is to increase services provided to secondary students; specifically for Secondary Gifted Resource Teachers to increase communication and provide support services for students in grades 6 – 12. Although there are a variety of options for our students, this goal cannot be accomplished unless HCPS consistently adheres to the requirement for gifted enrichment in grade 6 and gifted enrichment electives for grades 7 and 8.
Attached you will find scheduling guidelines that are non-negotiable. Secondary Gifted Resource Teachers will have 2 planning periods and 1 planning period for gifted (consult, collaboration, and gifted program responsibilities). In addition, 4 teachers are currently assigned to high schools and we need to coordinate their planning periods to allow for travel.
As we look forward to the 2015-16 school year, it will be important to maintain communication with students, parents, & teachers regarding gifted service options available to our students.
