During the past two years, Henrico County has participated in an Academic Review in conjunction with the VDOE. The Academic Review indicated a need to improve the method of delivering instructional feedback to teachers by administrators. The current observation and feedback forms in Talent Ed are structured around the professional standards for teachers rather than instructional standards they are teaching. It is our goal to continue to seek meaningful ways for school leaders to provide feedback that will improve instruction while also evaluating professional standards.
In order to shift our feedback toward a focus on the effectiveness of instructional practice aligned to the instructional standards, we are working to enhance the existing formal observation form in Talent Ed. It is our hope that the modifications made to the forms will allow you to focus entirely on the instructional practices taking place as you observe rather than working to verify the checkboxes regarding professional standards. Attached is a sample document that has been developed as a result of the feedback from Academic Review, leveled principal groups, and division leads. It was the intention to include as many suggestions as possible to be used in Talent Ed for the 2015-2016 school year. The components on the attached document will be added (inserted) at the top of the existing form, above the professional standards. The attached document does not include the professional standards, only the proposed changes that will be added. Please provide feedback regarding this document by the May 15. We value your input and welcome suggestions that will have a positive impact on the work you and your staff do every day!
