Dear James River Watershed Superintendents,
This is just a friendly reminder about the upcoming James River Leadership Academy!
After contributing to outdoor and environmental education experiences in Virginia for years, the James River Association (JRA) will implement a brand new educational program to occur over the 2015-2016 academic year. The James River Leadership Academy will provide a skill building and training opportunity for students who are passionate and committed to protecting our environment. The goal of the James River Leadership Academy is to engage, develop, train, and inspire students who have a genuine interest in future conservation of the James River and who are motivated to take action on its behalf. The James River Leadership Academy will also encourage and support the watershed’s youth as they develop into dedicated stewards and leaders for the environment.
High school students are invited to apply to participate in a year-long program consisting of a series of four “Leadership Sessions.” In addition, students will design and implement a community-based Action Project which will pair them with chosen mentors and experts to advise the development of their projects. These mentors will also help students open new doors to the multitude of volunteer and career opportunities within a the environmental field or other chosen area of interest.
JRA has received funding from the Virginia Non-Profit Housing Coalition, Luck Companies Foundation, and various other sources to provide this development experience to students. We welcome any contribution to the pilot year of the James River Leadership Academy, including potential involvement as a student mentor or speaker during Sessions. Please see the attached informational packet or visit http://jrava.org/what-we-do/leadership-academy to learn more about the James River Leadership Academy. Please feel free to forward it to any interested professionals or students!
Thank you for your consideration and support as JRA continues to participate in collective effort to protect and restore Virginia’s natural resources. Please contact me at the information below with any questions you may have.
Thank you,
Georgia Busch
