Dear Colleagues,
As of January 7, there are over 600 students in Henrico County Public Schools whose families are experiencing homelessness. Many of these children struggle academically, particularly when they attend multiple schools in one year. The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act requires that we identify students whose families are experiencing homelessness and provide supports and services to help these students succeed in school. We are evaluating our existing supports and trying to identify areas for improvement and growth. Please help us by responding to our survey.
The survey is short, and should take less than five minutes to complete. We are sending the survey to each principal and to all counselors and registrars at each school. We’d love to have several perspectives from each school, so please feel free to share this link. Here is the link to our survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YWF3DR5
Thank you for taking a few minutes to help us identify needs and barriers to participation for some of our very most vulnerable students! If you have questions or would like additional information, please contact Betsy Somerville, McKinney-Vento Intervention Coordinator at epsomerville@henrico.k12.va.us or 804-652-3282.
