Extension of SOL Expedited Retake Window

We have receive input from some of your colleagues that they would like to begin SOL expedited retakes prior to winter break. The window was originally set from January 5-16th. If you would like to begin expedited retakes earlier, you may begin them during the week of December 15th. As you make this decision with your school team, please consider the following:

• We would highly recommend that you only test students who scored within a narrow range, such as 390-399. These students may only need specific, targeted remediation on a few strands in order to pass the test. However, please review all relevant data that you have on a student-by-student basis to determine if this will be the best decision for the student.
• Any expedited retake testing that occurs prior to winter break will need to be accomplished with the resources you have in your school. Please be mindful of the responsibilities of your CARS over the next two weeks with first attempt SOL testing and benchmarks.
• Students can only receive 3 attempts during the winter testing window.
• Remediation prior to expedited retesting is strongly recommended, but not required by VDOE.

If you have any questions, please contact Cathy Durvin or myself. We want to support you with doing what is best for your students. If this is not an option you would prefer to pursue, then you may continue to plan for expedited retesting in January.
