MIDDLE SCHOOLS: Announcing One-Day Workshop (Uncovering the Source of Student Learning Challenges: Analyzing and Interpreting Data) Sponsored by the Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Appalachia

Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Appalachia is offering a complimentary one-day workshop for middle school teachers and leaders to use data to identify students’ learning challenges and improve student achievement. Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Appalachia is one of ten federal RELs administered by the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences (IES).

The one-day workshop will be held in Roanoke, Virginia, on Thursday, December 4, 2014, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The location will be Hotel Roanoke, 110 Shenandoah Avenue, Roanoke, Virginia, 24016.

Participants will learn the following:
• How to identify, analyze, and interpret data to determine sources and causes of students’ learning challenges.
• How to intervene with struggling students and monitor their progress.
• What school leadership can do to facilitate and improve teachers’ data use.

The primary audience is middle school teams of administrators, key instructional leaders, and teachers. Schools may choose to also bring curriculum specialists and/or special education and English language learners’ specialists.
