Effective immediately and until at least mid-December, records contained in General Schedule 21, Public School Records, will not be accepted for destruction by the Records Management office from schools or central office locations.
General Schedule 21 is undergoing revision by the Library of Virginia, and a final document is expected to be approved by mid-December. Pursuant to the Code of Virginia, during the time the affected General Schedule is undergoing revision, any records that are included in that Schedule must be held until the revisions are completed, in the event that a change is made that could affect the retention and/or destruction of records in that series.
Records that are found in other General Schedules (2/Fiscal, 19/Administrative, etc.) may continue to be sent for destruction as usual; please be sure that GS-21 records are not accidentally mixed in with the fiscal and/or administrative records. Jim Largen will continue to pick up student records according to the previously established pick-up schedule.
When we receive word from the Library of Virginia that General Schedule 21 has been approved, we will notify you that records can be sent for destruction again, and direct you to the most updated version.
Thank you so much for your understanding and patience. Please let me know if you have questions.
