Attention High School Principals-
I have submitted an intent to apply to Cheryl Gray Ball, Grants Coordinator, to partner with the American Lung Association on the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth Tobacco Prevention Grant.
In order to complete the intent, we need to know which high schools are interested in providing the NOT (Not on Tobacco) Program in their schools beginning in the 2015-2016 school year. The NOT program is a proven effective tobacco cessation program for youth.
At the school level, each high school principal would be required to designate a staff member as the facilitator. This staff member designee would need to complete an all-day training, set aside time to recruit students for the program, coordinate the implementation of the program (i.e. find a location and time for the group), and deliver ten 45 min. group sessions either during the school day or after school depending on availability of transportation and willingness of the staff member to work outside of contract hours. The designated staff member would not receive a stipend. Most high schools ask school counselors or nurses to serve as facilitators because the grant does not provide funding for substitute teachers.
If your high school would like to be included in this grant, please respond to me via e-mail by Monday, September 22nd.
