The Instructional Planner has been a massive effort to bring a small degree of consistency around best instructional practice. Given the significant size of our district and the history of consistent implementation being somewhat akin to herding rabid cats (smile)… it is unsurprising that there have been many rumors, misconceptions and confusion. We are working diligently to continue to provide relevant and timely information without overwhelming folks. As always, ask and ye shall receive. We are all working through this together and we will continue to elevate jointly or not at all…
1. Below you will find a link to an Instructional Planner website that is devoted to all things Instructional Planner including templates, exemplars, videos, etc. It is an evolving site as we add videos and respond to requests, but should serve as a repository of accurate information. 2. There has been MUCH discussion/requests from principals to make their own edited versions of the Instructional Planner. The entire purpose of creating a Henrico Instructional Planner was to ensure a degree of common quality in planning. Schools may use Stage 3 as their Daily Planner if they choose. We have ensured that it now includes the “Big Idea/SOL # and Standard” to support daily planning. Do NOT utilize individual school versions of the Henrico Instructional Planner. We may eventual evolve into differentiated versions, but we have no evidence to date that we have common capability on the core version and that is necessary before we start to devolve into “versions” in future years. 3. ALL/EVERY/EACH teacher employed by Henrico County Public Schools must complete 1 Instructional Planner per quarter. Not each grade level, not each content area, each individual teacher. The quarterly due dates have not changed from day one. They are on the Henrico calendar. Teachers can submit one today if they choose and get ahead of the game and individual principals can require earlier submissions if they choose in their buildings, but for the DIVISION EXPECTATIONS every teacher must each have at least one Henrico Instructional Planner submitted by the close of each quarter.
4. Principals and Associate Principals must use the provided checklist to give written feedback to teachers on the quality of their submitted Instructional Planner at least once per quarter. Administrative Instructional Planner Checklist
5. All Instructional Directors and the Deputy Superintendent will provide every principal with written feedback on their submitted checklist at least one per quarter.
