Week 14 Update

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving break! We got right back to work last week here in 1st grade, and have a busy week ahead of us with winter break right around the corner!

Our field trip to the Valentine Museum was a success! Students enjoyed taking a historical walk while learning about Richmond and famous Virginians such as Powhatan, Pocahontas, Christopher Newport, Maggie Walker, and Arthur Ashe. Thank you to all of our wonderful chaperones who made this trip one to remember! Pictures here

In reading, the students have been practicing asking and answering questions about fictional text using the 5 W’s: who, what, when, where, and why. In science, we learned about the seasonal changes that occur from fall to winter and how these changes affect plants, animals, and people. We focused on the concept of equality in math. Students learned that the equal sign means the same on both sides and practiced balancing equations.

Please note that our Winter Party is on Friday, December 20th at 1:00! The PTO has created a sign up for volunteers and party supplies. Please check out the link below. It is sure to be a great time!
