Thanks so much to everyone who planned, donated, participated, and enjoyed the 2019 Glen Allen Silent Auction!  We show appreciate our PTA and parents’ support!  We could not do this without you!  🙂

Report cards go home on Tuesday, April 23rd.  Friday, April 19th is a half day for students and Monday, April 22nd is a school holiday.

MATH

The Math MAPS test will be given on Thursday, April 18th.  The students have been working hard in preparation for this test all year long!  I know they are going to rock it!  Please make sure that your student has a good night’s rest, a nutritious breakfast, and a stress-free morning.  Thanks so much for your support!  The test for Perimeter, Area, and Volume test will be given on Tuesday, April 16th.  Your student has notes in their notebook to help prepare for this test.  We will continue working with converting measurements and begin reviewing elapsed time.  There will be a test on converting measurement on Wednesday, April 24th.  Weekly Math ( orange logic puzzle) is due Thursday, April 18th.  Please remind your student that there are lots of review opportunities on the math page of this blog.

LANGUAGE ARTS
As expected, the students did an absolutely amazing job on the Reading MAPS!  I am super proud of them!  🙂 The students should have their Book Clubs finished by two o’clock on Monday, April 15th.  The students have spent lots of class time on this project!  I can’t wait to see the whole novel unit!  We will start our new novel study, The Phantom Tollbooth, this week.  This is an awesome book with loads of word play, figurative language, and humor.  They are going to love it!  We will not have Word Trek this week.  We will review lots of skills including editing, poetry comprehension, author’s purpose, and nonfiction stop and jot.

SCIENCE

We will continue reviewing for the Science SOL this week.  Energy, force, and motion (4.2) and Electricity (4.3) are the focus for this week.  The students will have notes and homework to help them review this material from fourth grade.  We will also do hands-on activities in class.  They will also continue working on their study placemats.  Focusing on time management will be key in completing this assignment.  Your student can opt to work on this at home prior to the due date.  Please continue to encourage your student to review each night at home using the resources on this blog.  solpass.org is amazing site with all our curriculum included and up to date.  The Science SOL will be given in three short weeks on Monday, May 6th.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We will continue exploring the Southwest.  The students will work on a Southwest Region foldable this week.  There will be a Quick Check Quiz on Friday, April 19th.  This will include knowing the states and capitals of the region along with the vocabulary from Chapter 10.  Your student has the definitions in their Social Studies notebooks.
