March 11 – 15, 2019

Sunday is Daylight Savings!  Don’t forget to turn your clocks back an hour!

MATH

Monday, March 11th is the Triangles, Angles, and Patterns test.  Your student was asked to take their notebooks home to help prepare on Friday.  They have notes in their notebook to help them prepare.  Please encourage them to use the resources on the Math page of this blog as well.  We will start working with circles this week!  We will begin exploring circles this week.  We will start with parts of a circle.  Then the students will apply formulas to find circumference, area, and radius and diameter measurements.  To top it all off, Thursday is Pi Day!  We will do activities that highlight the magic that is the circle!  Weekly Math (green logic puzzle) is due on Thursday, March 14th.

LANGUAGE ARTS

The students are loving Book Clubs, and so am I!  I am thrilled with what I am hearing as they work in their groups!  They are talking, planning, problem-solving, and analyzing as they create their very own novel study unit!  I love it!  This week we will also work with author’s purpose, poetry comprehension, and text features.  In Language, the students will start a new essay about three things they would change about Glen Allen if they could.  They will use this writing as a sample of revising.  We will also continue using quotation marks and writing poetry.

SCIENCE

The Matter Unit test will be given on Tuesday, March 12th.  Your student has lots of notes in their notebooks and a study guide in their purple folder to help prepare for this test.  Our next unit is Sound.  We will explore sound waves and the speed of sound through different materials.

SOCIAL STUDIES

The students will finish up their Midwest postcards this week.  They will also start working on a commercial for the Midwest Region.  Please encourage your student to practice the  location of each state on the map and the capitals that go with each state by using the games on the Social Studies page of this blog.  🙂
