Week of December 9

Dear families,
What an exciting week of learning we have had in third grade! The students are making excellent progress measuring length and capacity. We have read lots of fiction and nonfiction text and practiced asking and answering questions. The students enjoyed learning about interdependency in science using The Lorax and Wump World. In addition to learning we “wowed” the entire school with our winter performance on Thursday. Thank you so much to all of the families who attended in the evening as well! The students looked amazing in their festive holiday attire.

Today’s trip to the Science Museum of Virginia went very well. Please check class dojo to see pictures of your child learning science by doing!
Testing next week: the students will have their 4.5 quarter two summative tests in reading and math next week. On Tuesday they will take reading and on Friday they will take math. These tests are cumulative and cover all material taught so far this year. Look for student notebooks to come home to help them prepare for these important tests next week!
Monday, December 9 is a half day. We will be collaborating with first graders to make our designs for the Giving Market that will be held on Thursday, December 19. As a reminder dismissal begins at 10:50.
Winter Break is quickly approaching. Trevvett’s fabulous PTO has provided a sign up for families who wish to contribute to our Winter Party on December 20 at 1 pm. Since our class eats lunch at 12:15 the students do not need a lot of food for the party but we would love to play fun games! Please email me if you have any questions or concerns!
Next week in reading we will complete our unit on asking and answering questions. The students will study prefixes and suffixes in writing. We will begin a personal narrative as well. In math we will learn about area and perimeter. In social studies we will begin a unit of study on ancient Greece and Rome.
Have a wonderful weekend!
