week of 11/4

Dear families,
We have had an action packet PAW pride week at Trevvett! The students enjoyed an awesome STEAM Day finding clues to the pirate treasure.

On Tuesday we decorated our door like a Dojo monster for Book or Treat. Thank you to all of the families that supported Book or Treat! It was so fun to see the students in their costumes and see parents and siblings as well!

On Wednesday we had a blast at the Big Blast celebration! A huge thank you to Mrs. Broudy who made sure every child celebrated our successful fall fundraiser.

Next week will be another busy one. On Monday, November 4 we will have our first nine weeks PAW achievement celebration. Your child should have brought home their T-shirt today. Please make sure they wear it to school on Monday. We will be going to Glover Park to participate in a kickball tournament against Greenwood Elementary School. Students should have on layers and atheletic shoes. In keeping with our PAW values all students are expected to participate in a positive manner during our stay at the park.
On Monday we will have our first student led parent/teacher conferences! The students are so excited to share with you the goals that they have set for themselves and their academic development during third grade. There are still many slots available. Please sign up for a conference here if you haven’t already done so!
The Book Fair is here!! The book fair will be open during conferences on Monday, November 4. Students wish lists came home today in their yellow folders. If you wish for your child to purchase any items from the book fair please have them bring the list and their money to school in the morning. I will send it to Mrs. Cline in the library to fill their order and she will return the items, plus any change to me by dismissal of that day.
In Reading we will continue our novel studies of the book Crenshaw. The students will investigate the idea of theme in a story. In writing we will continue to learn about r controlled vowels, contractions, commas in a series, and opinion writing. In math we will begin our unit on multiplication. The students need to understand the concept of multiplication as repeated addition. During the second nine weeks we do not emphasize memorization of facts. Please continue to practice fact fluency at home using Moby Max at home. I have also assigned extra lessons in language and math to support learning in previously taught areas. In social studies the students will use their geography skills to locate China on a map. We will earn about the contributions of ancient China and the adaptations that people used in their environment.
