Week of 5/14

Thank you for all of the wonderful treats, flowers, books, candy, gift cards, sweet notes, and beautiful pictures you shared with me during Teacher Appreciation Week. It is an honor and a gift to work with such amazing students and generous families!!
We have had a busy week in fourth grade. We are in review mode for Reading, Math, and Virginia Studies. The students worked hard Thursday and today on their Reading SOL. Unfortunately I cannot share with the children how they performed but if the child qualifies for a retake I will be sending that form home in their daily folder. Continue to remind your student to take their time, read the questions multiple times, and show their work for every problem (this is especially true for the Math SOL)>
Our Math SOL is next Tuesday/Wednesday May 15/16. On Monday the students will rotate to each fourth grade teacher to do a quick 30 minute review of a Math skill. The students will not have written Math homework next week. They will have a new Reading log on Monday for the remainder of May and Virginia Studies homework to complete as we prepare for that SOL Wednesday, May 23.
It is getting very hot on our playground and our recess time is either 11:15 am or 12:30 pm. If you would like for your child to wear a hat at school for recess send one in their backpack and I will allow them to wear it. The opposite is true of the classroom; with the air conditioner running the students, especially girls, may want to leave a sweater of sweatshirt in the classroom.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, aunts, grandmothers, big sisters, and any other family member who plays an important role in your child’s life!
Have a wonderful weekend!
