Dear families,
Our field trip to Pamplin Park was so much fun! Despite the giant carpenter bees, and loud noises, we enjoyed spending the day outdoors and reviewing Virginia Studies Civil War curriculum. Due to the late return from Pamplin Park many students did not have their folders to complete their Reading and Math homework. Students will need to complete these and turn them into me on Monday to receive credit for work habits. I did not give a weekly vocabulary quiz this week. The students took a Reading released SOL on Tuesday and Wednesday that took up all of our Reading time and so they did not receive any vocabulary instruction during the week. Thank you for your understanding of the changes in the weekly Reading plan!
This week will also be an action packed week of fun and learning! Monday is a half day, and our fourth STEAM lesson. The students will be working with a partner to construct towers and recording this data. We will be working until 10 am. Students who walk or go to daycare begin their dismissal at 10:55.
Friday, April 20 is Field Day! We will be outside all day. Please send your child to school with a hat, athletic shoes, comfortable clothes, and sunscreen if you feel they may need it. It will not be broiling hot like it is on Field Day at the end of the school year, but the sun will still be strong as we are outside for the majority of the day.
Sandwiched between these two exciting activities will be lots of learning. In Reading we will be reviewing main idea and supporting details. On Tuesday we will have a library lesson for our whole group time that celebrates April as Poetry Appreciation Month. The students have a shortened vocabulary list and will take a vocabulary quiz on Thursday, April 11. In Math we will be learning about polygons and translations, reflections, and rotations. On Wednesday and Thursday the students will be taking a Math released SOL during their Math time first thing in the morning. Please encourage your child to review all of the Math notes at home.
In Virginia Studies we will be completing our unit on 20th century Virginia. The students will have an end of unit test on Thursday, April 19 for 9a-d.
We are excited to have a new learning program that can be accessed at home. It is called MobyMax and your child can log in using their username and password (these are the same!).
Have a wonderful weekend!
