Opportunity at American University

Dear IB Students and Parents:

I would like to introduce you to a summer program at American University that may be of interest to students in your International Baccalaureate (IB) Program.

The Community of Scholars at AU’s School of International Service offers rising junior and senior high school students the opportunity to take a rigorous three-credit college class taught by highly regarded members of the AU faculty.  Like the IB program, Community of Scholars is committed to a broad, interdisciplinary approach to the study of global, national, and local affairs that values human rights, public service, and social justice.

This summer’s classes include “Diplomacy and Dictators:  U.S. Foreign Policy in An Uncertain World,” “Worlds Apart, Worlds Together:  Conflict, Culture, and Cooperation,” and “Justice and Sustainability: Global Environmental Politics.”

Over the course of the three-week program, students will enhance their preparation for college while engaging in cutting-edge class material.  Small, seminar-style classes enable professors to challenge and encourage the potential of each student.  The courses are complemented with guest speakers, site visits to such places as the State Department, Model UN, and skills-building workshops.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at 202-885-2442 or communityofscholars@american.edu or visit our website at www.american.edu/sis/communityofscholars

Thank you for sharing this information with students in your school.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,

Page Hogan
