Week of April 11 – 15

Hi families!  I hope you had a wonderful spring break!  My family enjoyed some days up in Northern Virginia visiting family and venturing into Washington, DC to see monuments, museums, and the National Zoo.

We are now beginning the last quarter of the year!  It’s hard to believe that my students will be graduating from 5th grade and heading off to middle school soon.  Thank you for all of your continued support!  Please stay tuned for information about the annual 5th Grade Crossover Ceremony and the 5th Grade Celebration during the last week of school.

Week of March 28 – April 1 (Happy Spring Break!)

Dear Families,

We have made it to the last week of school before spring break!  I am very proud of my students. They have remained focused and hardworking, even with the excitement of break coming up.  Thank you very much for all of your continued support!  I couldn’t do it without you.  🙂  I hope that you and your families have a fabulous spring break!  Enjoy this beautiful spring weather and make wonderful memories with your family.

As a reminder, the students will have a Family Life lesson this Wednesday, 3/30.  Information went home with your child a few weeks ago. If you do NOT want your child to participate, please complete the opt-out form that your child brought home in their folder (peach/orange color form).  If you do want them to participate, you do not need to turn in any paperwork.

Week of March 21 – 25

Happy Spring, families!  We are very excited that there are only 2 weeks until Spring Break.  Please continue to encourage your child to work hard and remain focused at school.

Our field trip to Deep Bottom Park last Monday was wonderful!  The kids had a lot of fun on the pontoon boat and were able to hold and touch the various fish that were caught on the boat.  The weather was also great for our nature walk along the river.  I hope that you are able to take advantage of living so close to the James River and can find ways to explore some more of our beautiful area with your family!  🙂  Here is a link to photos of our trip!  5th Grade Field Trip to Deep Bottom Park

Week of February 14 – 18

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!  I hope you all enjoyed your weekend!  Students are very excited about Valentine’s Day tomorrow, and they did a fantastic job of creating their Valentine containers in class on Friday.  I was very impressed with their engineering and design skills, especially with using only paper!  🙂

If your weekend includes watching the Super Bowl, be sure and ask your child about our Super Bowl LVI data analysis we did in class on Friday.  We used data to determine the mean, median, mode, and range of each team’s scores from the season.  Many of us predicted the Rams will win based on the data, but we’ll see!  (I personally would love to see the Bengals win!)

The sign-up link for parent-teacher conferences will be emailed tomorrow (Monday 2/14).   If you have concerns that you would like to discuss, you may sign up for a conference using the Sign-Up Genius link in the email.  If you don’t have any concerns or questions you wish to discuss, it is not necessary to meet for a conference.

Week of January 31 – February 4

Hello, families!  I hope you had a wonderful weekend!  We are now in the 3rd marking period.  Some students may still have some missing assignments from the 2nd quarter, which can still be submitted this week.  Please remind your child to check the “Missing Work” document in Schoology to see what still needs to be completed.  Thank you!
