Wow, what a short but busy week we had! We are so proud of the students as they are demonstrating what they know through both testing and completion of asynchronous review assignments. Just a reminder that for the next two weeks we will continue with SOL test administration on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Any student that is not participating in the SOL will be assigned asynchronous work for both Tuesday and Wednesday. Students will be expected to complete the asynchronous work by 1:00 each day in order to be marked as “present.” There will not be a class Teams meeting on either day as we administer the state tests to our in person and virtual students. Students will log into their resource on Tuesday at 12:00.
Reminders for students participating in SOL testing at School:
- Arrive on time – school begins at 8:00
- Students will need their fully charged laptop during testing
- It would also be beneficial to have a couple of pencils
- Scratch paper will be provided
- Please bring a book or two from home for after testing
- Lunch: Students will eat lunch in the classroom each day of testing

Math: We will continue to review the skills that we have learned this week. Students participating in the Math SOL will take these tests on Tuesday (in-person) or Wednesday (virtual). Students who are not testing will complete review activities to demonstrate their knowledge. SOL Pass https://www.solpass.org/math.html and the 5th grade portaportal are great resources for review!
Reading: In reading we will be having fun with poetry this week! Students will have the opportunity to read a variety of poems of different types and styles and recognize how they are organized. Students will have the opportunity to create their own poems as we look at different poetic formats and structures. Students will be working in their Poetry Notebook as a way for them to share a short poem for each of the major structures we’re discussing! The poetry notebook will be due on May 28 and a poetry unit quiz is scheduled for May 27.
Science: Wow, we have learned about so many awesome things in science this year! This week we will spend time reviewing these concepts. Students will be completing some graded review assignments to demonstrate their knowledge of these concepts and should utilize the notes in student resources to assist them. Please continue to utilize the portaportal site, as well as SOL Pass https://www.solpass.org/sci4.html, to review and show what you know!
Social Studies: In social studies we are focusing on the unique aspects of each of the 11 states that make up the Western Region. We will also look at how the increase in population impacted the Western Region.
