We had a great week! We enjoyed celebrating library month and Earth Day with some fun activities. Next week we will continue our celebration of library month and poetry month. Math: We will wrap up our unit on area, perimeter, and volume of squares, rectangles, and triangles this week. A test on this material will be on Thursday, April 29th. Be sure to refer to the student resource folder and the portaportal sites to review these concepts. We will begin learning about the various units of measurement utilizing the metric system.
Reading: To celebrate poetry we will be learning about various forms of poetry and poetic devices. Be sure to find your favorite poem to share on Thursday, for the chance to win a prize from the GAES library on “Poetry in your Pocket”day. Our Greek and Latin vocabulary list #11 will have the root “chron” (time) and the suffixes “arium” and “orium” (place where), and “ment” (result). Vocabulary A-Z is a great resource to prepare for the spelling and vocabulary quizzes.
Writing: Since April is Poetry Month students will have the opportunity to try their hand at various forms of poetry this week.
Science: We will wrap up our unit on electricity with a quiz on Tuesday, April 27. Be sure to utilize the notes and study guides in the student resources folder, as well as the fun review sites on portaportal to prepare for the quiz. We will then begin learning all about the solar system.
Social Studies: We will complete our study of the Southwest Region in social studies this week. Students will be provided a study guide to complete that will help them to prepare for the test. The completed study guide will be due on May 4 and the test will be on May 5. We’ll be off to our final region next – the West Region!
