Happy almost Pi Day! We had a great time celebrating Pi Day (3/14) a little early on Friday! It was a fun way to demonstrate understanding of our math unit on circles. Be sure to ask your child all about what they learned during our Pi Day  activities and scavenger hunt.

Looking for some great books to read? Look no further than the GAES Book Hub! Order your books here for the following week. For our virtual students library books can be picked up each Wednesday from 1030-11:30. Special arrangements can be made on other days as necessary by contacting our school librarian, Mrs. Harris.

Math: We will wrap up our unit on circles this week. Students should know how to measure and recognize the circumference, diameter, radius, and chord of a circle for our quiz on Tuesday, March 16. Please refer to the notes in the student resources folder and on the portaportal site to review and prepare for this quiz. Our study of measurement will continue this week as we move into recognizing and measuring different types of angles and triangles. Students will recognize and measure right, obtuse, acute and straight angles and be able to classify triangles as right, obtuse, acute, equilateral, scalene, and isosceles.

Reading: We will hear some great stories about the importance of children taking on a role in making choices. Our Greek and Latin Vocabulary list #7 includes the root “port” (carry) and the prefixes “com,” “con,” and “co” (with).

Writing:  Students will work on the county writing assessment this week.

Science: Frequency and pitch will be the focus this week in our sound unit. Students will develop an understanding of how sound interacts within different states of matter (solid, liquid, and gas). We will have a graded classwork checkup on sound on Thursday, March 18. Be sure to utilize the notes in the student resources folder, as well as the portaportal site to review these concepts on sound.

Social Studies: We continue our study of the Midwest Region. This week we will focus on the physical features and the climate of the region. Students will read about the important waterways and the animal and plant life of the Midwest as part of the asynchronous learning on Wednesday.
