Snow day in our future?

If the meteorologist predictions are correct it looks like we may have some snow in our future. Please note that should we have a snow day(s) next week the Lotus Book Report will still be due on Wednesday, Jan. 16. Please check emails and the blog should dates change for the Southeast Region Social Studies test that is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 15. Students were instructed to bring home the materials they would need to prepare for these assignments today.

Good luck Lily!

Lily will be representing Glen Allen at the HCPS Hoop Shoot Contest this weekend! Shoot strong Lily – we’re all rooting for you to win!

In reading we will be working on utilizing reading comprehension strategies throughout the reading process by focusing on main idea and supporting details in fiction and non-fiction.

Second 9 Weeks Lotus Book Report:

Your child’s book report is due this WednesdayJanuary 16th. Be sure your child is  following the instructions when completing each of the 9 squares. Remember that your child must return the rubric with the book report on the day that it is due. If your child turns in their book report prior to the due date they will receive 5 extra points.

Here are digital versions of the book report directions and rubric should you need it for reference or to print another copy for your child:

Cubs Read (Glen Allen reading incentive program):  Is your child logging his/her GAR minutes on their calendar? Be sure that they have picked up the January log to keep. This program is a fun way to reward the reading that your child does each day at home.

Social Studies:

Students will wrap up their class presentations that depict how geography affects the Southeast region. We will have a test on the Southeast Region on Tuesday, January 15. Students must complete the study guide using their social studies notebook  in order to prepare for this test.  The study guide should be turned in on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Be sure to go on my Portaportal site for some fun games and songs to help reinforce the 50 states and capitals.  This is located on the bottom of my email and the right hand side of the blog.
