What’s Happening in Reading?
In reading we will be continue working on comprehension skills that include character traits, character development, conflict, and plot characteristics.
Second 9 Weeks Lotus Book Report:
Your child’s book report is due on January 16th. I have told the students that by this time they should have finished reading their book and should be completing one square a day for the book report. Be sure they are following the guidelines on the rubric. Remember that your child must return the rubric with the book report on the day that it is due. If your child turns in their book report prior to the due date they will receive 5 extra points.
Here are digital versions of the book report directions and rubric should you need it for reference or to print another copy for your child:
Cubs Read (Glen Allen reading incentive program): Is your child logging his/her GAR minutes on their calendar? Be sure that they have picked up the January log to keep. This program is a fun way to reward the reading that your child does each day at home.
Social Studies:
This week students will be learning about the effects of geography on life in the Southeast region. Students will work on an in class project representing these effects. We will have a test on the Southeast Region on Tuesday, January 15. Students must complete the study guide that they will receive next week using their social studies notebook in order to prepare for this test. Be sure to go on my Portaportal site for some fun games and songs to help reinforce the 50 states and capitals. This is located on the bottom of my email and the right hand side of the blog.
Spelling City: Please have your child go on the Spelling City site a couple times each week to help reinforce our weekly vocabulary. This is such a fun way to increase their knowledge and application of the vocabulary words and to review past lists as well. This week we are on list #13. Look for the link to Spelling City on the right hand side of the blog.
