We had a fabulous last day of 2018 and Winter Party today. Thank you to our fabulous room parent, Cheryl Morgan, and our leader in the cookie decorating station, Jessica Patterson, as well as all who were able to send in supplies, funds, and/or volunteer in the classroom to make this such a special day for the students! I feel thankful to work with such a fabulous group of students and parents.
I wish you all a very safe and happy holiday!

What’s Happening in Reading?
In reading we will be working on comprehension skills that include characterization skills, conflict, and plot characteristics.
Second 9 Weeks Lotus Book Report:
Your child’s book report is due on January 16th. Be sure they are following the guidelines on the rubric. Remember that your child must return the rubric with the book report on the day that it is due. If your child turns in their book report prior to the due date they will receive 5 extra points.
Here are digital versions of the book report directions and rubric should you need it:
Cubs Read (Glen Allen reading incentive program): Is your child logging his/her GAR minutes on their calendar? Be sure that they have picked up the January log to keep . This program is a fun way to reward the reading that your child does each day at home.
Social Studies:
This week we will review some of the characteristics of the Southeast region including the climate, natural resources, significant features, and economic activities. Be sure to go on my Portaportal site for some fun games and songs to help reinforce the 50 states and capitals. This is located on the bottom of my email and the right hand side of the blog.
Spelling City: Please have your child go on the Spelling City site a couple times each week to help reinforce our weekly vocabulary. This is such a fun way to increase their knowledge and application of the vocabulary words and to review past lists as well. Look for the link to Spelling City on the right hand side of the blog.
