Varina High School is celebrating its 50th anniversary with multiple events during the spring semester.
In April, the school will host a landscaping event and Sports Alumni Night. In May, it plans a rededication event and a state championship team recognition for volleyball, softball and gymnastics.
These 50th anniversary events allow students, staff and community to join in celebrating the school, and they offer students a great opportunity to give back to the school by volunteering at the events.
Several students volunteer at school on a regular basis. For example, members of the Student Government Association, Key Club and Peer Helpers spend a lot of time making our school a better place; however, Varina is in need of more student volunteers as it gears up for important events commemorating 50 years at its current location on Messer Road. Faculty and staff cannot do it alone.
Students can support the anniversary celebration by attending the baseball and softball games where alumni will be recognized. They can lend a hand with the landscaping event. The 50th anniversary committee can use all the help and support it can get.
Now is a great time for people to lend a few hours to help organize and carry out the 50th anniversary events. We all need to take pride in our school, welcome back the community members who have gone before us and show them how we are all pitching in to carry on the Blue Devil tradition.
