The Varina varsity football team decimated Armstrong Friday night at Varina’s homecoming. Minutes into the game, Varina made their first touchdown giving them an early lead. Junior running back Aedon Howey sacked Wildcat Jaris Stewart several times causing numerous incomplete passes. Senior running back RJ Coles made the second touchdown in the first quarter, bringing the score to 14 – 0. Blue Devil senior alternate Stephen Richardson scored major yardage and later the fourth touchdown of the game. Wildcat Josh Crawford made the catch for Armstrong and scored some yardage toward the end zone. The Blue Devils quickly bounced back with another touchdown by senior wide receiver Samond Pinchback. As the fourth quarter began, Wildcat Jawaun Williams scored the first touchdown for Armstrong bringing the score to 48 – 8. After several more touchdowns by the Blue Devils, the Wildcats refused to give up without a fight. Williams made another catch and zipped down the field and into the end zone scoring the Wildcats’ second and final touchdown of the 2017 Homecoming game. The final score had Varina victorious, 61-14. The Blue Devils will next take on the Patrick Henry Patriots on their home field on October 6th.
