The Blue Devils’ varsity wrestling squad came out on top against the Henrico Warriors at Varina High School on Wednesday, December 17.
The Blue Devils were celebrating their senior class before the meet and used that emotion and momentum to dominate the Warriors as they earned three takedown victories to Henrico’s one.
After a string of forfeits for both sides due to uneven weight classes, Henrico started off to a fast start with two straight wins to cut their deficit to three points.
But Varina took control from there with a crucial takedown from junior Darrell Woodard in which he came from behind to force his opponent onto the ground and earn Varina three more points to add to the lead.
After Woodard’s victory, Varina pulled away with a takedown victory from senior Caleb Harding who earned his 150th victory in his four years on the team.
Varina won their final home game with a 48-18 score as they sent Henrico home with another loss.
