Everywhere you go you see people in a race to own the latest and greatest technology. With all of these new gadgets, people of all ages are starting to lose appreciation for what they already have.
I see it all of the time – someone goes and buys a new phone the day it comes out and uses it for about a year before buying another one. It’s a continuous cycle. It never ends. Will it ever end?
People think that they can own something for a short while and replace it with the next new thing. An upgrade isn’t necessary for a phone you’ve only had for a year. Some people see the word “new” and “upgrade” and can’t help but jump on the bandwagon.
The release of the iPhone 6 is a perfect example of how serious people take upgrading their phones the minute a new one hits the market. In New York, people waited for up to two weeks outside of an Apple store for the new iPhone to hit shelves. I don’t know about you, but I think waiting outside of a store for two weeks for a phone to come out is pretty ridiculous.
If Apple keeps it up, the iPhone 40 release date isn’t that far away. Perhaps the main feature of that phone will be that you don’t have to touch the screen, the screen will touch you. Think of all the money some folks will waste if they upgrade each time a new iPhone is released.
The technology craze is impacting everyone, especially younger generations. Many children are growing up with the expectation that new technology will be a part of their everyday lives. Many of these same children assume they are entitled to each piece of new technology as it is released.
Come on people. You should appreciate what you have. Instead of complaining about the technology you don’t have, be thankful for what you do have.
Let’s pull the plug on the upgrade state of mind.
