Varina junior Jordan Fountain finished just shy of first place in Wednesday’s cross country meet between Varina, Highland Springs, Atlee, Glen Allen and Lee Davis
A Glen Allen runner got the win, but Jordan was a close second.
Junior James Cook-Henderson came in 49th place out of 76. After the race, he was pleased he had beaten his previous time.
“I knew I would do good but not that good,” he said. He added that during the second mile he felt a little tired but managed to push through it.
“Our goal is to beat our best times,” Coach Scott said. “As long as you’re improving, that’s all that matters.”
Sophomore Corey Fountain came in 25th place.
There was a rush of excitement when junior Earl Pritchett rushed past a Hanover runner at the finish line for the 46th position in the race.
