The singing audition show, “The X-Factor,” is full of amazing singers, ridiculous screamers and those who just flat out cannot sing.
Two things hold the show together: people with enough courage to sing when millions worldwide can hear them and judges who are not scared to make or break them. Put the two together, and you’ve got a newer version of the classic “American Idol.”
Although “American Idol” was Simon Cowell’s baby, he has moved on to adopt the “X Factor” as his new one. Simon, the other judges and all the show’s staff have gone above and beyond what they needed to do to put the show together and make sure everyone knows about it.
A $5 million dollar prize goes to the winner, but 99.9% of the contestestants will be losers. Sometimes the judges let the contestants down easy; other times it’s just a flat out no. Judges Cowell, L.A. Reid, Paula Abdul and Cheryl Cole occasionally have no words at all for what they have seen.
Each contestant has a sob story or a pointless story explaining that they just want to sing. The background stories air before the performances to introduce them. Some of the stories are heartfelt; others, flat-out hilarious
On “American Idol,” viewers expect the same thing every season: the auditions, the contestants and the talent. But the seem-to-be constantly changing judges have been inconsistent. “American Idol” and “X- Factor” are similar, but what else can be expected? Leave a show in Cowell’s hands, and tah-dah: a singing competition judged by a panel of four plus several million viewers with the winner going home with $5 million.
