Lesson Summary
After reading Beowulf student perform a character analysis to identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the protagonist and antagonist characters. Based on these traits students will use 3d design to create an invention/tool/ trinket to reduce weaknesses or enhance strength so that Beowulf can defeat a monster.

Rating: Developing – Explanation: Students had to work independently and in groups to identify and examine various elements of the book in order to create an invention to defeat Beowulf’s opponents- prototype a modern day invention. Students conducted their own research to find facts and information that supported what they are making. Students also researched and created symbols that they could use on their invention that will reduce Beowulf’s weakness or enhance his strength against the monsters symbolism.
Communication & Collaboration
Rating: Developing – Explanation: Students worked individually on the project but brainstormed on Padlet (example of Padlet discussion ) on character analysis of the protagonist and antagonist characters. Also, students reflected on classmates projects. Students scanned the QR code sheet next to the 3D printing. Students answered questions about the project while listening to classmates screencastify recording.
Critical Thinking & Problem Solving
Rating: Ideal – Explanation: Student had to learn how to use the program Tinkercad and Screencastify in order to create their project. They had to use critical thinking and editing skills to create their prototype. Students had to have a complete understanding of the program and how to navigate it in order to use Screencastify to explain the invention.

Rating: Ideal – Explanation: Students created meaningful original prototypes that reduce weaknesses or enhance strength so that Beowulf can defeat a monster.
