Summary
Students were introduced to wants and needs through the use of digital media including Brain Pop Jr., Promethean Flipcharts, and a Scholastic Weekly Reader. Following the introduction, the students were provided with time to think about wants and needs within their classrooms. They then used the ChatterPix app to take pictures of items that are needs and wants in their classroom. They recorded their voice to explain whether it was a need or a want.

Rating: Developing – Explanation: Students acquired information from flipcharts, weekly readers, and videos. Students had to analyze the objects in and around their classroom to determine if it was a need or a want.

Rating: Developing – Explanation: Students worked in small groups to select objects and used a digital tool to take pictures and record their voice to demonstrate their understanding of needs and wants.
Critical Thinking & Problem Solving
Rating: Approaching – Explanation: Students had to independently follow multi-step instructions provided by the teacher to complete their task. Students had to justify their decision making practices in their recording. Students used higher order thinking skills and problem solving to decide upon their object and whether is should be classified as a need or a want.
Creativity & Innovation
Rating: Approaching – Explanation: Students created meaningful, original projects that highlighted their own strengths. Students used prior knowledge as well as information obtained through class discussions and activities to complete this assignment.
