Energy Resource Pitch – 15HS402

This lesson is for : Grade 11,Grade 12:

Summary

In this project, students will form teams and select an energy source to research and evaluate. During this research, students will determine the positive and negative impacts of this energy source as well as investigate major competing energy sources. Based on their findings, students will prepare a video that best defends their energy source and will then use eduCanon to create viewer-response questions to help reinforce the message of the video.

TIPC Ratings

Research & Information Fluency

Rating: Ideal – Explanation: After basic guidance, students identify the best sources for researching information about their energy sources and generate their own questions to guide that research. Students are also responsible for determining the best way to organize, assemble, and present the findings of their research in video form. Using the eduCanon platform, students decide which annotations to add to their videos to reinforce the important points from their research and support the purpose and goals of the presentation.

Communication & Collaboration

Rating: Approaching – Explanation: Students form groups based on the results from an informal Meyers-Brigg profile. Once in their groups, students determine roles and norms and choose their own tools to facilitate collaboration. At the completion of the project, students reflect on the success of the group and their role in it.

Critical Thinking & Problem Solving

Rating: Approaching – Explanation: Students generate questions to guide their research and answer those questions as a result of their research. Students justify their support of their chosen energy source and address opposing views.

Creativity & Innovation

Rating: Developing – Explanation: Students create original videos using tools of their choice, and then annotate those videos using eduCanon. These videos summarize the findings of their research and make predictions about the efficiency and possible impacts of their chosen energy source.
