Abraham Lincoln and George Washington – 4610

Summary

This is a rich project that aligns itself well with SOL 1.2 : The student will describe the stories of American Leaders and their contributions to our country with emphasis on George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington Carver, and Eleanor Roosevelt.

This project also encourages Research and Information Fluency by having the class as well as individual students complete a KWL chart on Abraham Lincoln and George Washington the students used Pebblego.com for the research component.

Communication, Collaboration and Creativity were all stimulated by having students create posters for each president in a mock election.

Finally, to encourage Critical Thinking and Problem Solving students completed a Venn Diagram comparing George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

This project requires at least four days of preparation.

Supports students as they engage challenges and problems purposefully. The students respond to higher order questions. Elaborate on critical thinking or problem solving practices when prompted. Justify decision-making and/or problem-solving practices.

The teacher models strategic risk taking, creativity and craftsmanship. Designs opportunities for students to synthesize research, communicate/collaborate, apply critical thinking skills to address an authentic task. The students work on class assignments that blend technology and limited aspects of personal choice to generate new ideas and products. Question, summarize and make predictions on existing knowledge using provided digital tools.
