School’s CineBistro – 6810

Summary

In this multi-class, multi-level, multi-subject project, students created a themed menu, cooked and served food, setup movie projectors, counted and collected money, and participated in all aspects of a movie-showing restaurant, all tasks being differentiated and using appropriate technology for a wide variety of student needs and content.

TIPC Ratings

DEVELOPING – Students in the reading class used the internet research to choose websites, gather information, and create an appropriate menu for the real-world task of serving food at the CineBistro St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

DEVELOPING – Students cooking in the kitchen and those putting video projector technology together and solving the real-world problems related to cooking and projecting a movie for the CineBistro. Students reflect in real-time, troubleshooting the use of technology to achieve their ends.

APPROACHING – Students cooking in the kitchen and those putting video projector technology together, solving the real-world problems related to kitchen technology and projecting a movie using computer, projector, speakers, and power supply for the CineBistro. Students in reading class using real-world information and information about student needs to solve the problem of how to communicate menu choices for people with disabilities, and they adjust communication in real-time based on student understanding.

DEVELOPING – Students synthesize research, communication needs, collaborative tasks, and critical thinking skills to address the authentic task of planning and implementing a CineBistro. The student created, leveled menus had value for specified needs of students.
