Your Biggest Influences: Who do you listen to? When do you listen to them?

Summary

The purpose of this lesson is to have students consider who they listen to when making a variety of potentially important decisions in their lives. Students complete a survey about their environment and consider the data from that survey. Students work in Google Docs groups to create a visual representation of the choices they make in their lives. Students then discuss situations in which they may consider making different choices

Developing: Students research images to represent the choices they make. Students use questions that are created during the discussions while looking at the data collected from the survey to drive their research.

Developing: Students utilize Google Docs to discuss their decisions and to collaborate on the finished product. Teacher ensures strong communication skills by allow the data to drive the discussion and by having the ongoing products serve to contribute to the dialogue.

Developing: Through questioning, the students consider the underlying meaning of the choices they make in their lives and consider situations that may require a different approach. Students determine situations that require a way of thinking that may not have been their first choice and are required not only to question their own decisions, but also to question why they allow certain individuals to influence them.

Developing: this lesson allows students to step away from the worksheet and poster format and allowed them to express themselves in a format that was new to them.
