Earth’s Changes – 4525

Summary

Students will extend their study of the changes of Earth’s surface through a self-directed research project. In the groups, students will determine an area of interest, select appropriate resources, and summarize their findings. The results of the research will be “taught” to the class. Students may select any method for sharing the information with the class. Products will be posted on the class blog. Students will be encouraged to comment on their classmates projects.

TIPC Ratings

This lesson falls in the Approaching category for Research & Information Fluency. The students used a Google KW Form (Know & Want to Know) to generate questions to guide research. The students were encouraged to select appropriate sources of information using a variety of search tools (Discovery Techbook, OneSearch, Books, Magazines, Videos, etc.)

This lesson fall in Approaching for Communication & Collaboration. The students are in self-selected groups and have to establish jobs for each group member. Students communicate using a Google Form and by posting final products on the class blog.

This lesson falls in Approaching for Critical Thinking and Problem Solving. The students generated and answered their own research questions related to their interest on the selected topic. They were also tasked with the real-world problem of having to teach this information to their peers in an engaging manner.

This lesson falls in Approaching for Creativity & Innovation. The students had to synthesize their research and create a unique product that would convey the results of their research effectively.
