Romeo and Juliet – 6200

Summary

Students were to write a literary analysis on Romeo and Juliet.  They then performed and recorded a scene from Romeo and Juliet with a group or individually. Students used a movie making program to successfully construct this scene. They adapted the script  and used media tools to reflect the modern era. For extra points students included an appropriate advertisement for a product that could have been sold during Romeo and Juliet times.  Creativity and relevance were encouraged.

This lesson is approaching in Research and Information Fluency. Students had to check the accuracy of their content to create a factual final product. The students did all of the research without direction from the teacher. They assembled all of the information to create the literary analysis and appropriate product advertisement.

This lesson is approaching in Communication and Collaboration. Students created their groups and established roles without direct supervision from the teacher. They used a variety of tools to communicate beyond the classroom to create the script for the literary analysis. These tools included but were not limited to facebook and google docs.  Students collaborated to create a cohesive final product.

This lesson is approaching in Critical Thinking and Problem Solving. This lesson was designed so students would think analytically about Romeo and Juliet. Students chose the scene to analyze and created their own interpretation of the scene. Many students chose to take the assignment one step further and create an advertisement for a product based on their analysis.

This lesson is ideal in Creativity and Innovation. The lesson was designed to provide opportunities for students to synthesize, analyze, communicate and collaborate to create a literary analysis of a Romeo and Juliet scene and apply those skills to a video. Because of that, students created films that were original and authentic. Students exercised creativity in their films and advertisements, which they shared with each other. They spent time after each video debriefing and discussing.
