Summary

The following lesson introduces Music Theory concepts to beginning band and choir students for the first time and can be used for those who need remedial assistance. This lesson introduces topics such as music vocabulary, scales, rhythms, note name and values. Students will obtain a general mastery of rhythmic concepts, note values, scale and key identification. Students will discuss and be able to understand the role of music in society. Students will get to use experimentation on a music website as a way of learning these concepts. The website contains a rubric that will be used to give authentic and consistent feedback to the student.

In this lesson the music teacher disseminates information for students to work independently to create individual products. Students post the compositions on Youtube.com, without further requirements of listening to others’ compositions.


This lesson is in the Developing level Of Critical Thinking and Problem Solving.
In this lesson, students use a teacher chosen website to listen to music notes and perfect their ability to identify these notes and play them on the simulated online instrument. Students apply the online tool to think critically and create a composition.


This lesson is in the Entry level of Creativity and Innovation.
Students created compositions in response to teacher directions. The students are given a specific website to do research, practice, then post a composition.
