Wk of 11/18

This was a week of celebrations!  We started the week with our classroom awards, celebrating our hard work from last quarter.  It isn’t as easy to earn awards now that we are in 5th grade.  I am so proud of everyone for rising to the challenge by either achieving success this time or, more importantly, reflecting on their work and developing a plan to achieve their goals this upcoming quarter.  Our entire class has grown so much since the first day of school, and I am really proud of them!  They are laying the foundation for an extremely successful middle and high school experience.

We also celebrated our individual and team behavior achievements this week with an awesome pizza party.  To earn this, students had to work together with their row team to follow directions, show PAW values, and create a safe and positive learning environment in our classroom.  I am so proud of the camaraderie and teamwork that students displayed to earn this party!  Check out some fun filled photos below.

During our STEAM activity, we modeled our leadership and collaboration skills by partnering with 2nd graders to design a project proposal that would solve a problem using only recycled materials.  Teams used the engineering design process to identify a problem of their choice, imagine a solution, and make a plan to create their solution.  Students then presented their design to the whole group, which voted to create one of the designs.  We are excited for our next STEAM day when we will create, test, and improve upon the chosen design with our 2nd grade partner.
