Happy Friday to You & Happy Completion of Week 5!

Thank you so much for all of your support at home with your children!  It has been quite an adventure and they are doing a wonderful job adjusting!  I wanted to wrap up the week and give you a heads-up about some events for next week as well as a few reminders.  Have a great weekend!

*Blog—Although my blog is up to date, teachers have been told that they do not have to use their blogs while we are virtually learning.  If you are interested in seeing what the kindergarten teachers have planned for the week with your child for topics and a pacing guide, please reference the Schoology button ‘Weekly Plans.’  Here is the direct link below.  You will see a chalkboard with LA, Math, and SS ‘I Can….’ Statements.  https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1ZW4JlxOx7C9ntqeQsTybONXTETfM7oaWYCb30tcnINk/edit?ts=5f4e6320#slide=id.p

*SeeSaw–  While I am still figuring out this new medium and planning for virtual teaching, I have been assigning SeeSaw assignments.  As I always do in the classroom, I am planning for more than I have the allotted time because I do not want to run out of material before the class timeframe is completed.  Sometimes I will ask students to complete one SeeSaw, sometimes it may be two.  It all depends on time.  Today, for example, I had 2 math pattern activities assigned to the class.  When I got to the end of my time in class with what I wanted to cover, I realized that they only had time for one activity in order to make it out to recess on time.  I told them that the ice cream assignment was optional.  Children seemed to understand and as I hung out in the meeting in case there were questions, no one came back to check.  I was so proud of them.

*Dreambox – The county is recommending that children complete 5 activities on Dreambox per week.  Some parents have reached out to ask what is appropriate and that is the guideline that we were given.  PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOUR CHILD IS UNABLE TO GET ON.

*Smarty Ants – This is self-guided.  Children practice reading skills through this app.  Kaechele teachers will be having a training on this Monday afternoon and I may have more information for you then.  PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOUR CHILD IS UNABLE TO GET ON.

*Mystery Reader – If you would like to sign up for Mystery Reader, please follow this link.  Mystery Reader is Friday afternoon from 12:20 – 12:30.  We had our first one today.

*Papa John’s Teacher Delivery Night is on Tuesday and children are encouraged to wear the KES Spirit Wear to their classroom meeting for a Spirit Day on this day.

One additional add-in for the packets is ‘Let’s Find Out’ magazines for September and October.  You may do these at home with your child.  They were just delivered after I sent out the email, so we decided to include them in your packet to limit your trips to school.  These are optional as well.

Dear Parents,

I have a couple of midweek updates for you!

The kindergarten teachers have placed a packet with your child’s name in the kindergarten bucket by the front entrance.  Please come and pick up your child’s packet whenever you have a chance.

In your child’s packet, you will find several important items.  At this time, these activities are optional, but we wanted to be sure that your children had resources if he/she would like more practice.

*There is a copy of the kindergarten and grade one progress report which will explain what the grades mean at the kindergarten and 1st grade level.

*There is a laminated copy of numbers and sight words to practice reading and writing with your child.

*There is a 100 Chart in which you can practice number identification, number order, and counting by 1s, 5s, and 10s with your child.

*There is a copy of a handwriting book in which your child can practice writing his/her numbers.  Please have your child only use a pencil when writing in this book.  If/When we do come back to school, we may need to erase mistakes and reteach some of the strokes of the letters.

*There is also a laminated copy of your child’s name written in the appropriate manner in which he/she may use a dry erases marker to practice name writing following the correct letter formation.

We have also received an update for Smarty Ants from the county.  Please see the following announcement:

Smarty Ants
Good news! The Smarty Ants app has been pushed out to all PreK – K  iPads.   This means that students will no longer have to use the “Continue in Browser” option, but can select “Start App”.  The App will automatically open for the students and they will not need to enter their username and passwords.

The technical support team from Smarty Ants recommends that we use the app on the iPads to eliminate some of the glitches students were experiencing.

Here is a link to slides that explains how to use the app.  It is family-friendly so you can share with your students.

Happy Wednesday!

Happy Monday!  I was able to deliver ‘End of the Year’ presents to all of your doorsteps!  Be sure to check outside and grab your child’s treat bag!

Tomorrow is our Zoom Meeting at 8:30 AM.  In honor of Father’s Day which is coming up, children are invited to share pictures of Dads, Grandfathers, Uncles, or anyone that holds a special place in their hearts — this could even be babysitters, moms, grandmothers, or YOUR TEACHER!  ;0)  We will basically just be checking in with each student since we haven’t met in a week.  I’ll be sharing a picture or two of my dad and Traylor and Lola Grace with their dad.    As always, if you don’t have anything you’d like to share with us, we’d just love to hear you say ‘hi’ to all of your friends!

Here is the information from Mrs. Patterson for the week with the last Coyote Courier link!  Happy Reading!

Good afternoon to all KES Families,

This message is to notify you that today is the last Coyote Courier message for this school year.   Please review the parent newsletter so you can be informed about end of the year event and activities for our school and PTA: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1JJljc1D9CblSFl8JJ8gD2W4qut7HdiYgYryocVPfxsU/edit?usp=sharing
Additionally, this issue has information about KES staff who are leaving our school and new members joining Coyote Country for the 2020-21 school year, as well as other specific details that are pertinent to planning for next school year.

Also, if you were not able to pick up your child’s supplies/items last week, there will be ONE more opportunity.   Read the details in this week’s issue.

I hope you will plan to say GOOD-BYE to the KES faculty and staff on Wednesday, June 10th from 2:00-4:00 PM as we stand on the sidewalks at KES and wave to families who drive by.  A detailed message will be sent out on Tuesday, June 9th with directions and guidance on how to participate if interested.  I hope that I have the chance to see you at the KES parade on Wednesday.

Sincerely,

Cindy Patterson, Principal
