This is such an awesome digital storytelling idea! The basic idea of the 4 Icon Challenge is to take a story, novel, historical event, etc. and summarize it using only for basic pictures. These four pictures represent the main events that happened on the topic that is being discussed. I got this idea from Frank Fitzpatrick, an ITRT in Henrico County. I have been telling him for months that I was going to do this assignment with my students, and now I am finally going to pull the trigger! The example below is my 4 Icon Challenge from the famous children’s book Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. This has always been a favorite book of my when I was a child, and I can’t wait to show my students in class tomorrow. We are going to be reading The Polar Express, and I think the 4 Icon Challenge will be a great activity for the students to work on main idea. I used the drawing tools in Keynote to create my images, but I am going to have my students start off by using crayons, markers, or colored pencils first to get the hang of the project first.
