Video Update

I Don’t Like It, I Love It will be posted in the next few days.  As they say in the movie industry, “the film is in the can.”  All dances have been filmed and we are in post production right now (MAN, I sound so professional.  Where did that come from?)  Fireball is already linked.  The other dances that I did at the SHAPE Southern District will be posted as well.  Thank you for your patience.  (My computer was re imaged so it gave us some hick-ups with downloading and editing.)

Music Info for Fireball

Fireball

I just discovered this YouTube posting of an edited Fireball mix. It looks like this DJ Michael Dean is doing the dirty work for us. 🙂  If you still don’t like this version you can download the Karaoke version off of iTunes, or contact me with a song of your choice that has the classic A, B, A, B, C, B, B format (Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Bridge/Break, Chorus, Chorus) and I’ll customize as best I can.

Thank you to those of you who reached out and asked this question.  I hope this helps.

Hello Conference Friends

What a wonderful morning.  Thank you for being so warm and friendly.  You made the Dances Your Students Will Beg You To Do session so much fun with your energy and enthusiasm.

I had a nice lady ask me about the speaker I was using and I told her I would tell all about it in my session, and I completely forgot.  I’m so sorry, but I guess I just discovered what I can blog about. 🙂  I just recently discovered that you do not require a elaborate sound system (CD players, receivers, speakers, etc.).  I have a portable PA system at my elementary school that has multiple lines in and a CD player, but the overall sound is only about 250 watts of sound.  That is ample for a gym but take it outside and the sound disappears very quickly.  It is also very heavy and the extra lines are not necessary for what I need.  I LOVE BIG SOUND, but great portable PA systems all seemed to be super expensive (over $1,000).  When I did a little research I found out that speakers today are now being made with direct lines in.  The speaker I used today has two lines in (I used for iPod/computer and mic) and there is a digital display on the back with individual volume controls for each.  Receivers are not required anymore, and I can get up to 600 watts of sounds!!!  And here’s the best part… if I want more sound I can daisy chain as many speakers I want and multiply the watts as I go.  The model I bought is an Electro-Voice ZLX-12P.  It’s extremely easy to use and weighs around 35-40 pounds (I can move it without breaking my back).  There are several great brands but this one was on sale for just under $300 at Guitar Center and got great reviews.  The wireless microphone was an even better deal; I got it off of Amazon and it was a package containing a receiver, two headsets, two lapel mics, and two battery packs, so it allows you to have two mics run at the same time and you can choose to use either the lapel or headset for your line.  That set runs off of a VHF frequency, so it’s the bottom line of products, however, it does the job.  I paid $60 and have taken to using it daily in my gym to save my voice.

I hope this is helpful.  Just let me know if you have additional questions, and Thanks again for a wonderful day!

SHAPE America, here we come!

With great anticipation, the time has finally come.  My student teacher, Mr. Gall, and I are headed to Williamsburg, VA to Southern District conference this week.  Southern District is a division of the national SHAPE America organization for Health & Physical Education professionals.  With 50 states in the nation the country is divided into different districts.  State divisions have their own conferences and in the spring the districts have a conference too.  Southern District is comprised of 13 states of the US that are in the south-eastern part (Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Texas), .  This year Virginia is lucky to be the host state for the Southern District conference, so we can’t miss this opportunity to collaborate and commune with fellow professionals.  I not only will be enjoying meeting new people and gathering new ideas for a great HPE program, but I will be presenting twice!  I’ve got butterflies in my stomach but they’re good butterflies.  I have a session on Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. that I’ll do by myself, and at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday I’ll get to team teach with some amazing teachers from all across the state.  Both sessions are all about a topic I love; Dance!  Can’t wait to share all the new things I learn. 🙂
